Pine
We can supply bed frames in a natural, clear shellac finish* or in a colour
stain/wax of your choice. We have an outstanding range of colours for you to
choose from and pride ourselves in currently offering over 100 colour
stain/wax combinations.
alphabeds uses Scandinavian Redwood for frames and slats. Locally grown pine is
unfortunately too soft for use in furniture. Redwood is more dense (and as the
name implies, redder) than Whitewood (or Spruce) which is also widely used.
The extra resin in Redwood helps to preserve the timber. Although Whitewood
has some advantages (the most obvious being price) we, along with most quality
pine furniture manufacturers, feel that Redwood is worth the premium
Before you commit, why not order a colour sample (a 3inch by 2inch piece of
wood finished to your specifications) giving you a clearer indication of how
your bed frame will look.Don't rely on the colour definition of your PC or printer, which can vary.
Alternatively why not send us a fabric sample from your bedroom and we will do
our best to match that to your requirements and send you a colour sample of our
results.
If you have any further queries on choosing a colour why not email our colour
specialist, Julian, at alphabeds@btconnect.com as we understand how choosing
a colour can be an important decision when designing a bedroom interior. Don't
forget, we also make bedside cabinets and underbed storage boxes, which can be
coloured to match your bed frame.
*Our pine bed frames are a natural wood product, which are sealed with a mixture
of natural linseed oil and shellac. This is not a heavy-duty polyurethane type
varnish but a completely natural mixture, which on drying feels more like a wax
than a varnish, but gives more protection. The bed needs no more maintenance,
but a little wax polish now and then will enhance the maturing colour of the wood.
